This World Menopause Day, NIFRS is ‘Continuing the Conversation’ and supporting employees with a series of training initiatives and workshops taking place throughout the week.
These initiatives provide employees with the opportunity to hear more about the menopause and how it can affect physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Areas highlighted across the week will include signs and symptoms, how the menopause impacts women and what can be done to help manage the symptoms and support women in the workplace.
The week will end with a call out for Volunteer Menopause Champions across the organisation as NIFRS introduces a new Champion lead initiative to engage directly with women going through this transitional period in their lives.
Commenting on World Menopause Day Ms Carmel McKinney, OBE and Chairperson of NIFRS Board said:
“Menopause is a natural part of life and should be embraced, not feared.
“I’m pleased to see the strides that NIFRS is making in raising awareness about the menopause and its symptoms amongst the entire workforce.
“It’s really important that we understand the menopause and the impact its symptoms can have. If specific support is required for our female Firefighters, Regional Control Personnel and Support Employees, it’s important that this is recognised, understood and provided.
“Conversations about menopause should be normalised. We should continue the conversation, not only on this World Menopause Day but beyond. Talking about it builds a culture of openness and creates more inclusive and supportive environment for women in the workplace and general employee well-being.”
