Online Home Fire Safety Check
Our online Home Fire Safety Check is available to everyone and we strongly encourage you to avail of this service. This easy-to-follow home fire safety check has been developed through a partnership between the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), Fire Kills and Safelincs. It can be carried out for yourself or you can complete it with anyone who you think would benefit from fire safety advice such as a neighbour, friend or relative.
The self-assessment takes around 15 minutes and involves completing a series of questions about you and your home. At the end you will be given tailored fire safety advice which you can download and keep for future reference. Also, if you are eligible, you will be referred for an in-person Home Fire Safety Check.
In-person Home Fire Safety Check
This is only available to those identified as being more at risk and involves a visit to your home. Each visit will be carried out by at least 2 NIFRS employees who will be wearing NIFRS uniform and have a NIFRS photographic identification card.
During the visit, they will discuss the fire risks in your home and offer tailored fire safety advice to help prevent a fire occurring. Following this, they will assess the need for smoke alarms and fit as many as are required. They will also show you how to test them safely and discuss a fire escape plan specific to your home. The visit will take up to 40 minutes.
Sometimes it is useful for a family member, friend, neighbour or care worker to be present to provide support during the visit.
This form is for our partner agencies use only. All other referrals should be made via the Online Home Fire Safety Check for our public.
