{"id":4505,"date":"2021-04-13T01:01:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T00:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nifrs.org\/winter-warning-as-fire-fatalities-rise-this-year-2\/"},"modified":"2023-04-03T11:15:01","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T10:15:01","slug":"winter-warning-as-fire-fatalities-rise-this-year-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nifrs.org\/winter-warning-as-fire-fatalities-rise-this-year-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t forget to Test it Tuesday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>13 April 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most important things you can do to keep your household safe from fire is to install smoke alarms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smoke alarms detect smoke at the earliest stages of a fire, giving you vital extra time to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why it is so important that you have smoke alarms on every level of your home, and that you test them weekly to make sure they are working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember &#8211; Test it Tuesday!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow our smoke alarm advice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You should fit a minimum of one smoke alarm on every level of your home, ideally on the hallway or landing ceilings.<\/li><li>It\u2019s better to install a heat alarm in your kitchen rather than a smoke alarm.<\/li><li>Choose an alarm which meets British Standard BS 5446-1 and carries the Kitemark.<\/li><li>Follow the manufacturer\u2019s instructions of how to fit and position the alarm.<\/li><li>Test your smoke alarm every week.<\/li><li>Replace the battery once a year or consider fitting a ten year battery.<\/li><li>If you have a doubt as to where to position your smoke alarm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nifrs.org\/contact-us\/\">contact us<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For people who would not be able to hear a conventional alarm, there are special devices available which make use of a vibrating pad or flashing light instead of the audible signal.
