{"id":3503,"date":"2019-10-11T14:10:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T13:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nifrs.org\/nifrs-and-nias-partnership-targets-people-at-risk-2\/"},"modified":"2021-02-23T14:22:04","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T14:22:04","slug":"19fsw-nifrs-and-samaritans-working-together-to-keep-people-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nifrs.org\/19fsw-nifrs-and-samaritans-working-together-to-keep-people-safe\/","title":{"rendered":"NIFRS and Samaritans working together to keep people safe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>11 October 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On World Mental Health Day 2019, Northern Ireland Fire &amp; Rescue Service and Samaritans have announced that they have signed a partnership agreement to allow them to work together to protect those most at risk in our community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the 93rd partnership agreement NIFRS has signed with partner agencies focused on supporting \u2018People at Risk\u2019 within our community. The agreement has been signed as part of North \/ South Fire Safety Week 2019, which aims to promote fire safety, with the ultimate goal of zero accidental fire deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement means that NIFRS and Samaritans will work collaboratively to ensure that the people they come into contact with are aware of both partner\u2019s services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NIFRS Group Commander, Gerry Lennon, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking in partnership with other organisations is a vital part of the Northern Ireland Fire &amp; Rescue Service strategy to help protect the people most at risk in our community, and we\u2019re delighted to be working with Samaritans to help raise awareness of the service and support they provide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s Fire Safety Week theme is \u2018Safer Together\u2019 and the focus is on how NIFRS works with partner organisations to help keep people safe from fire, and also how the community can support each other and NIFRS to help STOP fire- this partnership fits perfectly with this theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFirefighters engage with the community on a daily basis, providing safety advice. Collaborative working with partner organisations such as Samaritans helps us engage directly with those in the community who may need help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Samaritans Regional Marketing Officer, Northern Ireland, Alan Heron, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to be working alongside NIFRS to try and raise awareness to the more vulnerable people in our communities. This is an opportunity to extend a level of support to people living alone, or who suffer mental health issues in their life.
