Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service

Operational Activity

Over the past 5 years from 2011-12 to 2015-16 we have successfully reduced the number of emergency incidents we responded to by 17%.

NIFRS analyse incident data to understand where emergency incidents are more likely to happen and where the likelihood of injury or fatality is higher. We profile life loss, injury and property damage for the different types of emergency incidents we attend.
Incidents with a higher likelihood of causing injury or serious damage to property we classify as ‘life risk’. These incidents are dwelling fires, fires in other buildings, road traffic collisions and other special service calls.

We also profile our Station Areas to fully understand the risks within our local communities. We need to know the local population, available services and industry in each area, properties of significant community, heritage or environmental value, the local transport networks and any specific geographical considerations such as waterways.

We believe that by focusing on the analysis of data and better understanding the people in our community we can target our resources at those most at risk and make the community we serve safer for everyone.
