Station Commander Peter Melarkey wins Emergency Services category of NI Road Safety Awards 2018

We’re delighted to announce that Station Commander Peter Melarkey of Northern Area Headquarters (Ballymena) has won the Emergency Services category of the Northern Ireland Road Safety Awards. The awards ceremony took place in Cultra Manor on Friday 23rd November, as part of Road Safety Week 2018.

SC Melarkey has served NIFRS for nearly 30 years. In his role as driving instructor, he’s helped hundreds of Firefighters become blue light drivers and many others in achieving their LGV licences so that our crews can get to where they are needed, when they are needed most.

He is extremely popular with pupils and teachers, through his involvement in the Northern Ireland Primary School Road Safety Quiz, and has a clear passion for road safety.

Congratulations Peter!
