Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has invested over £2.5m in four new Turntable Ladder (TTL) Appliances. With a ladder reach of 42m, they are the highest articulated ladder appliances in use across the UK Fire & Rescue Services.
These new specialist appliances will replace older aerial appliances and have recently been delivered to four Fire Stations– Springfield (Belfast), Northland (Derry), Knock (Belfast) and Portadown. Firefighter training on the new appliances is currently ongoing, after which they will be available for mobilisation and will form part of the NIFRS operational response to incidents involving high rise buildings.
This investment is part of NIFRS’s ongoing fleet replacement strategy to replace older fire appliances with new, higher spec fire appliances to enhance the operational capability of Firefighters when responding to incidents.
NIFRS Assistant Chief Fire & Rescue Officer, Michael Graham said:
“Firefighter and public safety is our number one priority and these new TTL appliances will be used by Firefighters to respond to incidents, such as fires in high-rise buildings. NIFRS is leading the way in investing in our frontline services to ensure that our Firefighters are equipped with the latest technology and equipment to deliver the most effective operational response at incidents.
“The new TTL appliances are built to the highest standard in terms of safety, performance and reliability and will complement and work alongside the capabilities within the existing NIFRS fleet.”
