Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS), Group Commander, Alan O’Neill said:
“NIFRS is continuing to respond to incidents related to Storm Éowyn. From Friday 24 January at 12am to 2pm NIFRS Regional Control Centre received 261 emergency calls; 58 calls related to fallen trees and 7 calls related to electrical poles. Fire Crews were mobilised to 87 of these incidents.
“Throughout this period of heightened operational activity we continued to respond to other incidents, including animal rescues, collapsed buildings, hazardous materials, and property fires.
“NIFRS would like to thank the public for adhering to safety messaging during this time and to continue doing so as weather warnings remain in place throughout the evening.
“The public are reminded to remain vigilant and if they are experiencing power cuts please have a torch or battery operated candles ready, and if using an open fire to keep warm use a fire guard.
“Please pay attention to the road closure advice as many roads are closed for the safety of road users.
“Obstructions can be reported to NI Direct or call the 24-hour number on 0300 200 7899.
“If there is a risk to life dial 999 immediately and we will respond.

- Please pay attention to road closure advice as many roads are closed for the safety of road users.
- If your journey is essential, reduce your speed, stay well behind the vehicle in front, remain focused and always wear your seatbelt.
- Motorists should be aware of road conditions. Drive at the speed the conditions allow for as it takes longer to stop when the road is wet.
- In the event of serious flooding phone the NI Flooding Incident Line on 0300 2000 100.
- Make sure you are prepared for a power cut by having a torch or battery operated candles ready.
- Stay clear of any damaged electricity equipment and report it immediately to NIE Networks on 03457 643 643.
- If you can, please check in with vulnerable family, friends and neighbours by telephone to ensure they are staying safe.
