A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said:
“The thoughts and sympathies of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) are with the family and friends of a woman who died following a fire in Cullingtree Fold, Falls Road, Belfast on Saturday.
“NIFRS received a call at 6.35am on Saturday 25 April 2020 to attend a fire at a flat in Cullingtree Fold on the Falls Road.
“3 Fire Appliances, 1 from Springfield Fire Station and 2 from Cadogan Fire Station, attended the scene.
“A 63 year old woman was rescued from the fire but tragically died from her injuries later in hospital.
“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
“We would remind the community to be extra vigilant about ensuring their home is safe from fire at this time, as we all spend more time at home. Also, if you know someone who is older, vulnerable, or could be more at risk from fire at this time, please consider their fire safety too – check in with them and talk about the potential fire risks in their home. Ensure they have a working smoke alarm, make sure they test it every week and are aware of the obvious causes of fire and, in the event of a fire, they have an escape plan. If you’re concerned or need any information on keeping safe from fire, please contact us directly via telephone line 02892664221. We can check in with them to make sure they are keeping themselves safe from fire.”
