On 19 September 2018, NIFRS dealt with a number of Storm Ali related incidents. From 8am until 6pm NIFRS received 155 calls and attended 41 weather-related incidents across Northern Ireland, rescuing 4 people.
Incidents of note:
NIFRS received a call at 12.11pm to attend a weather related incident involving fallen trees at Slieve Gullion Forest, Newry. Crews from Crossmaglen and Newry Fire Stations and the Specialist Rescue Team attended alongside ambulance service, air ambulance and PSNI. Tragically a man in his 20s died at the scene and another man in his 40s was taken to hospital.
Firefighters from Central, Cadogan and Springfield Fire Stations together with the Specialist Rescue Team attended an incident in Osborne Park, Belfast involving a tree having fallen on an oil delivery tanker. Firefighters with the assistance of ambulance personnel rescued 1 man in his 40s from the tanker cab and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
