Two Appliances from Downpatrick Fire Station, one Appliance from Ballynahinch Fire Station and the Specialist Rescue Team were called to an incident on Quay Road in Strangford where a car had entered the water.

One male casualty was rescued from the car by members of the public and the Coastguard and was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, where he sadly passed away.

The Coastguard helicopter carried out an aerial search, while NIFRS Specialist Rescue Team and the RNLI carried out a search on the water to make sure there were no other casualties. The incident was dealt with by 2.01pm.
