Freedom of Information

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) there is a duty on all public authorities to issue a Publication Scheme, setting out:

  • The classes of information that they publish or intend to publish
  • The manner in which the information will be published
  • Whether the information is available free of charge or on payment

In 2017 NIFRS received 124 requests under the Freedom of Information Act of which 118 were responded to within the 20 working day timescales laid down in the Act. With the requesters’ permission an extension of the 20 working day timescales was granted for the other 6 requests .

The NIFRS Disposal schedule was finalised and signed by the Public Records Office-Northern Ireland (PRONI). This document is legally binding and provides staff with the correct procedure for records management.
