Fire, Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said:

“Firefighters are continuing to deal with a fire at a bar on the Upper Newtownards Road in East Belfast.  

“The incident has been scaled back and there is currently 1 Fire Appliance in attendance at the scene.   Firefighting operations are likely to continue for a number of hours this evening. 

“NIFRS received the initial call at 8.16am this morning (31 January 2019). At the height of the incident over 30 Firefighters, 5 Fire Appliances and 2 Specialist Appliances were involved in tackling the well-developed blaze.

“Firefighters worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
