Training and Development
When the people of Northern Ireland dial 999 they expect a first class response from their Fire & Rescue Service.
To deliver that high-class service we need to ensure that our people are trained to the highest level; as a result training and development are a huge part of everything we do in NIFRS.
Our dedicated training centre is at Boucher Crescent in Belfast, we also have facilities in Westland Road Belfast and Northland road in Derry. However our training also takes place in every one of our 67 stations and in many other places in Northern Ireland and elsewhere.
The challenges that face our people are wide-ranging and often very complex. The training & development we provide is designed to help our people meet these difficult and often dangerous situations.
Development in NIFRS is continuous from the first day a trainee arrives with us and is maintained throughout his/her career. As well as the core Fire & Rescue skills there are many specialisms, we have people trained in such diverse skills as Specialist Rescue and Gas Chromatography.
Not all of our training has an operational focus we also conduct training in other areas, such as management and the application of Fire Safety Legislation, to name but two.
