Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service

Rope Rescue Team

As part of our capability at Newry Fire Station we have a Rope Rescue Team. The team is  made up of both full-time and part-time on-call firefighters. The Rope Rescue Team at Newry is an integral part of NIFRS response to incidents involving people and animals that require rescuing from confined spaces or situations such as trench rescues that need ropes to secure casualties and rescue crews.

Rope Rescue requires significant maintainance of Skills which entails regular training and we are very grateful to our partners in NI Water, who as an excellent example of interagency co-operation allow us to use their excellent below ground training facility at their Newry Depot.

The Rope Rescue Team at Newry is supported both operationally and in a training capacity by colleagues from the NIFRS Specialist Rescue Team (SRT) based at Central Fire Station, Belfast, Eastern Area Command (EAC).
