Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service

Large Animal Rescue

Western’s Large Animal Rescue Team was set up in 2006 as a direct response to demand by the public for NIFRS to continue to assist in animal rescues.
The team, based at Omagh Fire Station, are equipped with specialist equipment for Animal Rescue, & an all-terrain vehicle.
NIFRS has worked with Greenmount Agricultural College & the USPCA to provide extensive training in Animal Rescue techniques as well as safe handling of animals. The welfare of the animal is always a high priority.
The Animal Rescue Team is particularly mindful of the risk of diseases spreading from animals to humans & indeed from farm to farm. The firefighters use personal protection equipment & disinfect their equipment & appliances before entering & before leaving a farm.
