Here you can find guidance on how to keep your premises safe from fire, as well as information about fire safety legislation
and your duties under the law.
Part 3 of The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and The Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland)
2010 came into effect on 15 November 2010.
As an appropriate person with control over non-domestic, industrial, commercial, leisure, educational or healthcare premises,
this legislation requires that you take responsibility for ensuring your premises reach the required fire safety standard.
It is the policy of NIFRS to pro-actively manage fire safety and to seek a reduction in the number of fires, fire-related
deaths and injuries, unwanted fire signals, through the effective and efficient enforcement of all fire safety
legislation for which it has responsibility.
Our Fire Safety Inspectors will provide information to help you. It will be consistent, appropriate, transparent and timely.
Our aim is to educate and inform but, where necessary, we will enforce or ultimately prosecute cases of non-compliance with
fire safety requirements.
