Regional Control Centre Trainee Development Programme

This is an intensive course which is based, for the first 8 weeks in a classroom environment, followed by a further 6 week watch based integration programme.  As with their Wholetime and Retained colleagues training doesn’t end on completion, rather it represents the beginning of a career-long path of training and personal development.

During the initial training period Trainee Firefighters (Control) gain the knowledge and practical skills necessary for them to take their place alongside their professional colleagues in the Regional Control Centre and the wider NIFRS.  Some of the many subjects and skills they master are listed below:

  • Course Introduction
  • Receipt and Handling of Emergency Calls
  • Fire Service Communications
  • Fire and Rescue Standards of  Response
  • Information Technology
    • Function and Operation of  the Computer Aided Dispatch System
    • Function and Operation of the Integrated Communications Control System
  • Special Service incidents
  • Statistical Requirements
  • Team Building
  • Fire Service Organisation
  • Equality and Dignity
  • First Aid
  • Health and Safety at Work
